Nashville 2012
So next year I’m going to be moving to Nashville,TN this is something I’m extremely excited about and nervous about for many reasons.
I always planned on moving to Nashville after college but couldn’t afford too, really still can’t afford too but I’m going to do it.
Many of you know, some of you don’t know I got jumped last year outside of my apartment complex. Terrfiying experience to be punched in the back of the head as hard as possible and have six people run you down wanting to beat you up over a phone. After I shut the door on the people chasing me, a single thought ran through my head that if they had knife and knifed me from behind I could of died on a parking lot of Trinty Lakes Apartments. For months after this I was plague with this thought because it always lead back to what have I done with my life? Have I achieved any of the goals I laid out for my self? (things beyond just making movies) . And honestly I didn’t like the answer, I want to do so much with the life given to me and I won’t even take a risk on moving away from a place I’m confrontable with. So I decided to make a list of goals to achieve and one of them was that in one year I would move to Nashville, that one year is almost up and I’m going to do it.
I think part of the reason I wanted to stay behind was because of friends, I take friendship so seriously, after a long history of so called friends who weren’t real friends, I believe nothing should become between friendships. So I put this part of my life on hold in hopes my friends would want to go with me. I mean how much easier would it be to go to a new city with all your friends? Sadly they have lifes haha and after begging them sooooo MANY times they want to stay behind for now. I’m bummed about this, I’ve been friends with Reid for over 13 years, but he wants to stay behind for a year to save up for a car, we did talk about visiting and hanging out since its only a 3hr drive and yes we are still going to make videos together, that goes for all my Memphis friends & filming buddies.
So the beginning of next year I’ll be moving in with a Youtube buddy of mine. :) And bonus the girlfriend has been in Nashville for about a year and the driving back and forth every weekend to see each other will save on gas thus saving the planet lol This is saving our planet!

Good luck Olan, I finished university last year and the day after graduation I jumped on a plane to live in Japan. I JUST returned home for the holidays and home doesn’t quite feel like home anymore. It’s exciting and tough to make a big move like this but once you take that step you’ll realize how much stronger of a person it will make you. Your friends, family, and partners in film with find their right place in your life. Stick it out and keep kicking butt, the adventure’s just starting man.

Aww I love this update because obviously you don’t have to share this kinda of info. with us but you did! :) I agree that making big changes in life can be scary, but I hope this move turns out to be SO worth it for you! :) Good luck as you make this transition!

Wow, I know it will be hard leaving friends, I had to do it and it was difficult. But I’ve had many amazing things happen in my life since moving close to nashville. I love it here, and I believe many amazing things will happen when you move up here too :) Best of luck Mr. Comedic genius of the century. I think I will sense your presence here in nashville when everything becomes funnier everywhere I go. You release an aura of laughter, it’s contagious!

That was super inspiring, man. :) I’ve been a fan of yours for a while now and secretly (well, it’s not a secret anymore) wish we were friends. You’re such a good person, truly, and I enjoy every video you post! I also like your sweaters, I qualify for one…but I will NOT admit to which items on the list I fit under. I am begging my boyfriend to purchase the Battle Bear sweater for my Christmas gift. But aside from youtube fandom and publicity, I can tell that you’re a genuine person. I’m making a big move myself come summer! I’m moving from Olympia, Washington to Cambridge, Massachusetts…Hooooooly crapoly. I enjoy you, and I wish you the best in Nashville!

Olan, I also live in Memphis! After high school I plan to go to school in Nashville (Majoring in film–yes, you inspire me) I’m so glad that you want to make something of your life and do things that aren’t always easy. It motivates me.
Question, what video camera (for a beginner) would you suggest to make shorts?

I live near Nashville! Not that I’ll ever see you… but its cool to know your closer here. I’m really sorry to hear about you getting jumped, that really sucks and I’m glad you made it out ok. But just wanted to let you know I’ve been watching your videos for a long time, and me and my friends use lines in your videos as inside jokes all the time. Oh, and I just bought literally every item in the Olan Rogers Store. Keep making more awesome shirts!

You should visit the Third Man Record store while you’re linging it and getting used to living in a new city. Jack White owns the place and works there when he’s not on tour, so who knows you might get to meet him. That dude is a mad boss, R.I.P The White Stripes.

DUDE, I live in Nashville, actually Franklin but that’s only about 20 min away. So if you need some help from a nearby fan who knows stuff about film and plays guitar, then just tell me. It will be really cool to recognize the stuff in your upcoming videos.

Hey Olan, I’ve been a long time viewer for 4 years now. I watched BalloonShop and olanrogers back to back since I moved from Louisiana to Memphis. When I moved I was really upset with leaving my friends and the city i loved (baton rouge). To try to feel better i was youtube trying to find something funny. I came across on of the BalloonShop videos and I immediately started to feel better. Then I heard about your personal channel and I couldn’t believe how much better I felt. I couldnt understand how much your videos have done for me. From a laugh to a pick me up. Remember, you accomplished more than just one thing.

Woah that is scary, I think it’s awesome though you want to accomplish more with your life. Because a lot of people just think it’s about having fun while you have the time. Philippians 3:13b-14 “Forgetting what is behind, and straining for what is ahead. I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” I hope your able to accomplish what you’ve set out to do in Nashville, and I’m sure you’ll make lots of friends. You always put a smile on my face and I don’t see how anyone could dislike you. BTW New Prime 5 was beast, it’s almost up there with (lord of the rings) on my list. Greatest short film I’ve ever watched. :))

Olan man, this is wonderful that you are moving to nashville, especially for your dream. I just want to thank you for all the laughs that ive had watching videos from balloon shop till now, and there will definetely be more to come. Thanks for taking my photos my senior year man.
